It's time to get the vegetable patch ready for spring. The cold and wet days seem to stretch on and on. Not very tempting for getting stuck into the garden beds. Since the little one brought home sunflower seeds from a birthday party we decided to pop them into the soil. She sang a little song learnt at kindy:
Here is a seed for me to grow, a little sun, a little shower - and then a flower.
Finally I'v managed to grow a decent crop of dill. There are several plants dotted around the garden and I hope to discover a few more ways to use this favourite herb. I'm thinking a bit of this will be great in a big pot of borscht I'm planning for the weekend.
I've potted the succulents into glass vessels so I can bring a bit of the outside in.
Spring is not too far away, just this weekend we had a teasing of sunshine and warmth, quickly followed by rain, hail and more cold weather. I do love wintery weather but now I have had my fill and wait for spring....

The plants in glass vessels look great, really striking actually.
I did the same last weekend. Dug my neglected and yucky compost into a bed and turned all the weeds over into it to rot down. I'll add a bit of b&b and lime this weekend and keep it rotting away for a month.
The other bed is pretty much good to go but is closer to the house and gets so little sun on it through winter I'm not sure where to start. In summer it gets a lot of sun but the crop has to change for winter. It was a strange square of grass stuck between pavers so I dug it up but not sure now. It was supposed to be a herb plot but the herbs did poorly through winter.
There's much to do in the front yard and I think this year I'll be dropping a lot more edibles out there. The garden changes so often - it's guiding me at the moment. I've given up trying to shape it.
We'll be getting ready for spring this weekend... exciting times!
As for dill... a yummy yummy cracker is - camembert cheese, slice pear and a sprig of dill on a water crackers. So so so yummy!
